Personalized Plans Built Around Your Goals

No two veterans experience pain the same way, and no two treatment plans should look the same. We take the time to understand your symptoms, history, mobility limitations, and personal goals so your care is designed around what matters most to you—whether that’s returning to work, staying active, reducing reliance on medication, or simply moving without constant discomfort.

Understanding Your Benefits

What Is the VA Community Care Program?

The VA Community Care Program (also called the Veterans Community Care Program or VCCP) allows eligible veterans to receive healthcare from approved providers outside of VA facilities — closer to home, with shorter wait times. Total Vitality Medical Group is a VA-authorized provider, meaning your VA-approved care is billed directly to the VA with no out-of-pocket cost to you.

You May Be Eligible If…

  • The required service isn’t available at your local VA facility
  • VA cannot provide care within their access standards for drive time or wait time
  • You and your VA provider agree community care is in your best medical interest
  • You are enrolled in the VA health care system

How the Referral Process Works

  • Step 1: Talk to your VA primary care provider about your symptoms
  • Step 2: Request a referral to a community care provider
  • Step 3: The VA Community Care Office processes your authorization
  • Step 4: Contact us to schedule — we’ll handle the rest

2025 Program Update

As of August 2025, the VA now issues 12-month authorizations for 30 standardized types of community care, replacing the previous 90–180 day renewal cycle. This means fewer disruptions to your treatment and less paperwork — so you can focus on getting better.

Common Questions

VA Community Care FAQs

Yes. For VA Community Care, you need prior authorization from the VA. Start by speaking with your VA primary care provider and requesting a referral through the Community Care Program. Once your authorization is issued, call us at (727) 726-1460 and we’ll get you scheduled.
When you come to us through an approved VA Community Care authorization, the VA pays the bill directly — there is no out-of-pocket cost to you. If you choose to be seen without a VA authorization, standard billing applies.
A referral is your VA provider’s recommendation. An authorization is the formal approval issued by the VA Community Care Office that allows you to be seen at an outside provider like Total Vitality and have the cost covered. You need both before scheduling.
As of August 2025, the VA now offers 12-month authorizations for 30 standardized types of community care. This is a significant improvement over the prior 90–180 day system. Your VA provider or the Community Care Office can confirm the duration for your specific authorization.
Yes. Chiropractic care and physical therapy are both covered under the VA’s standard Medical Benefits Package for eligible enrolled veterans. If your local VA facility has long wait times or doesn’t offer these services on-site, a Community Care referral can direct you to our clinic.
All four of our locations — Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Brandon, and Tampa — are equipped to treat VA Community Care patients. Call us at (727) 726-1460 to confirm availability and schedule at the clinic most convenient for you.
